Kerleys Coastal Real Estate is passionate about protecting our local environment on the Bellarine Peninsula, and Australia as a whole.

We are a certified Climate Active Carbon Neutral organisation, not only this, but we are Australia’s 1st residential real estate agency to achieve this certification.

What is Climate Active?

Climate Active is Australia’s collective initiative for climate action. It is a partnership between the Australian Government and Australian businesses to drive voluntary climate action. Climate Active certification is awarded to businesses that have achieved a state of carbon neutrality.

What have we done to achieve this certification?

As an organisation, we have reduced our carbon emissions where possible and then invested in projects to offset the emissions that we are unable to reduce.

Recent renovations to our head office saw the installation of LED lights, energy efficient air conditioning and improved insulation. This has significantly reduced the carbon footprint leading into our first year of Climate Active reporting.

We are proud to say we have purchased 100% Australian Carbon Credit Units in projects which offset our emissions, with the benefits going directly to Australian communities and our environment.

Australian Offset Emission Projects Supported:

Moombidary Forest Regeneration Project
The Moombidary Forest Regeneration Project is based on the Moombidary Station in North East Queensland. The project uses assisted regeneration from seed, on land that was previously cleared of vegetation and where regrowth has been suppressed for over 10 years. The project owner has invested in new infrastructure and implemented a rotational grazing strategy which has seen almost one million tonnes of carbon sequestered over the life of the project. It is also assisting regrowth by managing the timing and extent of grazing and the cessation of mechanical clearing.

ALFA (Arnhem Land Fire Abatement) Project
Across an area of 2.6m hectares in Central Arnhem and beyond, the Arnhem Land Fire Abatement Project adopts an emissions avoidance method using a fire management system. The northern tropical savannas are among the most fire-prone ecosystems in the world, Traditional Owners must conduct savanna burning to reduce wildfires and manage country. All savanna fires emit greenhouse gases but research has shown that it’s the late dry season wildfires that emit much greater levels due to their intensity. The ALFA project has reintroduced customary burning practices conducting fine-scale fires meaning they are smaller & cooler in the early dry season, therefore cutting greenhouse gas emissions in the form of methane and nitrous oxide.

How can you contribute?

It is our hope that our contribution towards the mitigation of climate change will encourage others to do the same.

When you support a Climate Active certified organisation, you’re supporting voluntary and verified action and you are taking positive climate action.
